卦辞The Judgement
归妹：征凶，无攸利。Guī Mèi. Going forward: misfortune. Nothing is favorable.
处于不得已、委屈求全的状态。震雷在上属木居东方——泽上有雷，雷在泽水上空打响。金克木，泽（金）压着雷（木）的根——这是女主动追随男，位置不正，前进有凶。前进有凶——但有些事不得不为。这种“明知不利而前往”是悲壮的——需要谨慎、需要智慧、需要懂得自处。
A state of having to make do, of swallowing one's discomfort. the upper trigram Zhèn is Thunder, element Wood, in the east — thunder above the lake, sounding over the water. Metal checks Wood, the lake (Metal) pressing on the root of the thunder (Wood) — the woman actively following the man, the position not upright, and to advance brings misfortune. To advance brings misfortune — yet some things must still be done. "Knowing it cannot go well and going anyway" is tragic; it demands caution, wisdom, and the ability to bear up.
大象The Image
《象》曰：泽上有雷，归妹；君子以永终知敝。Thunder over the lake: the image of the Marrying Maiden. The noble one, accordingly, keeps the end in view and understands what can decay.
六爻The Six Lines
初九，归妹以娣，跛能履，征吉。The maiden is married off as a junior wife. A lame leg can still walk. Going forward: good fortune.
以陪嫁的身份（次要位置）——，虽然瘸着腿也能走路。即使位置不理想，也能发挥价值——吉。
Coming in as a secondary partner (the chaperoning sister) — though lame, one can still walk. Even from a non-ideal position, one can still contribute — good fortune.
九二，眇能视，利幽人之贞。Half-blind, yet still able to see. Favorable for the recluse to hold steadfast and upright.
看东西不太清楚（一只眼）——，做幽居之人的事。受限的处境下，守住自己的小天地，没问题。
Half-blind (vision impaired) but still seeing — the role of the hidden one. Holding the right path in a limited situation works fine.
六三，归妹以须，反归以娣。The maiden waits. Returns to be married as a junior wife.
想做正室却只能做次的——，只好回去做陪嫁。被现实修正预期——是必经的成熟。
Hoping to be the main wife and finding one can only be the secondary — the expectation must be revised. Adjusting one's hopes to reality is a necessary maturity.
九四，归妹愆期，迟归有时。The maiden delays the marriage. Marrying late, but in due time.
迟迟不嫁——震雷初爻，雷还没响——耐心等真正合适的时机，不强求，耐心等真正合适的时机。不强求，等就是了。
Delaying the marriage — Zhèn's Thunder, first line, the thunder not yet sounded — waiting patiently for the right time, not forcing it — waiting patiently for the truly suitable time and partner. Do not push; simply wait.
六五，帝乙归妹，其君之袂，不如其娣之袂良；月几望，吉。King Yi marries off his sister. Her sleeves are not as fine as the junior wife's. The moon is nearly full. Good fortune.
尊贵的人嫁给次要位置——震雷居中，雷声正大——反而比贵族出嫁的妹妹活得自在，位置不显赫反而吉，反而比贵族出嫁的妹妹活得自在。位置不显赫，反而吉。
A noble married into a lesser place — Zhèn's Thunder centered, the thunder upright and full — living more at ease than the lavishly dressed sister, the position unflashy but the way of life good — and she lives more at ease than the more lavishly dressed. The position is not flashy, but the way of life is good fortune.
上六，女承筐，无实；士刲羊，无血。无攸利。The woman holds a basket — no fruit in it. The man slaughters a sheep — no blood. Nothing is favorable.
女子捧着空筐，男子杀羊却不见血——震雷到极处，雷声空了——形式都做了但都是空的，形式都做了但都是空的。这种空洞的关系或合作，没什么用。
The woman holds an empty basket and the man cuts the sheep with no blood — Zhèn's Thunder at its extreme, the thunder hollow — the forms gone through but all of it empty — the forms are kept but the content is gone. A hollow relationship or partnership benefits no one.
