卦辞The Judgement
升：元亨，用见大人，勿恤，南征吉。Shēng. Sublimely prosperous and smooth. Fit to see a great person. Do not worry. Marching toward the south: good fortune.
上升、晋升、发展的时机。巽木在下属木居东南，坤土在上属土居西南——树木从大地里长出来，根在地下，枝叶往天上伸展。木克土，但这里的克是破土而出——土松开了，树才能往上长。从低处开始一步步往上走——循序渐进、积小成大。不需要走捷径，按步骤来反而更稳。南方（开阔的方向）有利。
A time of rising, advancement, growth. The lower trigram Xùn is Wood, element Wood, in the southeast; the upper trigram Kūn is Earth, element Earth, in the southwest — a tree growing up out of the great land, roots underground, branches reaching for the sky. Wood checks Earth, but here the checking is the breaking-through — the earth loosens, and only then can the tree climb. Climb step by step from a low place — proceed in order, build the small into the great. No need for shortcuts; going by the steps is actually steadier. The south (the open direction) is favorable.
大象The Image
《象》曰：地中生木，升；君子以顺德，积小以高大。Wood grows up from within the earth: the image of Pushing Upward. The noble one, accordingly, follows virtue, building the small into the great.
六爻The Six Lines
初六，允升，大吉。With trust, ascending. Great good fortune.
完全得到大家的认可而上升——巽木初爻，树刚发芽——大吉，这种上升是发自众人意愿的，最稳，大吉。这种上升是发自众人意愿的，最稳。
Rising with the full backing of everyone — Xùn's Wood, first line, the tree just sprouting — an ascent born of collective will, the steadiest kind — great good fortune. An ascent born of collective goodwill is the steadiest of all.
九二，孚乃利用禴，无咎。Sincere; then even a small offering is favorable. No fault.
用真诚的心做事——巽木居中，木气最纯——即使简朴也行，诚意比形式更重要，会有意外的喜悦，即使简朴也行。诚意比形式更重要——会有意外的喜悦。
Acting with a sincere heart — Xùn's Wood centered, the wood-energy at its purest — even something plain will serve, sincerity over form, bringing unexpected joy — even something simple will do. Sincerity matters more than form, and brings unexpected joy.
九三，升虚邑。Ascending into an empty town.
进入空旷的城邑——巽木到三爻，树已长高——畅行无阻，不要犹豫，大胆推进就好，畅行无阻。这时不要犹豫，大胆推进就好。
Walking into an empty city — Xùn's Wood at the third line, the tree grown tall — clear passage, no obstruction; don't hesitate, push boldly — clear passage all the way. Don't hesitate now; push forward boldly.
六四，王用亨于岐山，吉，无咎。The king makes offering on Mount Qi. Good fortune. No fault.
用诚心向最高者献祭（像古代王在岐山祭祀）——坤土初爻，大地刚承接树木——一切顺从天意行事，这种姿态最稳妥，一切顺从天意行事。这种姿态最稳妥。
Making sincere offering to the highest (like the ancient king sacrificing on Mount Qi) — Kūn's Earth, first line, the great land just receiving the tree — acting in full accord with Heaven's will, the safest posture of all — acting in accord with the will of Heaven. This posture is the safest.
六五，贞吉，升阶。Steadfast and upright: good fortune. Ascending the steps.
守正吉、上一个台阶——坤土居中，土德最厚——能稳稳地获得想要的位置，能稳稳地获得想要的位置。
Hold to the right path, good fortune, and rise a step at a time — Kūn's Earth centered, the virtue of earth at its thickest — you can steadily reach the position you want — you can steadily reach the position you want.
上六，冥升，利于不息之贞。Ascending in the dark. Favorable to be ceaselessly steadfast and upright.
