天风姤Gòu · Encountering

乾上 · 巽下Heaven over Wind

卦辞The Judgement

姤：女壮，勿用取女。Gòu. The woman is strong. Do not take this woman in marriage.

意外的相遇、不期而至的诱惑或机会。巽风在下属木居东南，乾天在上属金居西北——天下有风，风吹遍大地，什么都能碰到。金克木，天压着风，风再大也翻不了天——但风碰到的东西就多了。但要警惕——表面看起来好的不一定真好。需要仔细辨别——不要被表象所迷惑，更不要被女色、利益、权力轻易俘获。

An unexpected encounter, a temptation or opportunity arriving uninvited. The lower trigram Xùn is Wind, element Wood, in the southeast; the upper trigram Qián is Heaven, element Metal, in the northwest — wind beneath Heaven, blowing across the whole earth, brushing against everything. Metal checks Wood, Heaven pressing the wind: however hard the wind blows it cannot overturn Heaven — but the things it meets are many. But be wary — what looks good on the surface isn't always truly good. You need to discern carefully: don't be deceived by appearances, and don't let yourself be easily captured by allure, profit, or power.

大象The Image

《象》曰：天下有风，姤；后以施命诰四方。Wind beneath heaven: the image of Coming to Meet. The ruler, accordingly, issues his commands and proclaims them to the four quarters.

六爻The Six Lines

初六Initial Six

初六，系于金柅，贞吉；有攸往，见凶，羸豕孚蹢躅。Fastened to a metal brake. Steadfast and upright: good fortune. To go somewhere: misfortune appears, like a lean pig restlessly pacing.

把车停在金属桩上（系于金柅）——巽风初爻，风刚起——立刻刹车、阻止前进，如果继续走，凶，立刻刹车、阻止前进。如果继续走，凶——主动出击会陷入麻烦。

Set the brake against the metal post (fasten to the metal brake) — Xùn's Wind, first line, the wind just rising — brake at once, check the advance; to keep going is misfortune — stop and check the forward motion at once. To keep going brings misfortune — taking the initiative here leads into trouble.

九二Second Nine

九二，包有鱼，无咎；不利宾。A fish in the wrapping. No fault. Not favorable to offer it to the guests.

篮子里有鱼（机会到手）——巽木居中，木气最稳——机会到手了，但不能与外人分享，这是只属于自己的，但不能与外人分享。这是只属于自己的机会，不要随便泄露。

There's a fish in the basket (the chance is in hand) — Xùn's Wood centered, the wood-energy at its steadiest — the chance is in hand, but not to be shared with outsiders, it's yours alone — but it can't be shared with outsiders. This is an opportunity for you alone; don't go broadcasting it.

九三Third Nine

九三，臀无肤，其行次且；厉，无大咎。No skin on the buttocks; the walking is halting. Danger. No great harm.

屁股没皮、走路困难——巽风到三爻，风向不定——处境难受但还没出大事，慢慢调整就好，处境难受但还没出大事。慢慢调整就好，不要急。

Raw in the seat, walking with difficulty — Xùn's Wind at the third line, the direction unsettled — an uncomfortable spot, but no real trouble yet, adjust slowly — an uncomfortable spot, but no real trouble yet. Adjust slowly; don't rush.

九四Fourth Nine

九四，包无鱼，起凶。No fish in the wrapping. Misfortune arises.

篮子里没鱼了（错失了机会）——乾天初爻，天刚开始高——错失了机会，会有凶险，会有凶险。错过了就错过了，要从中吸取教训。

The basket has no fish (the opportunity is missed) — Qián's Heaven, first line, Heaven just beginning to climb — the chance lost, danger ahead — misfortune. What's lost is lost; the lesson is to learn from it.

九五Fifth Nine

九五，以杞包瓜；含章，有陨自天。A willow shading a melon. Concealing its brilliance. Something falls from Heaven.

用杞树的枝叶包瓜——乾天居中，天心正位——虽然不显眼但有内涵，意外从天而降的好运，是给有内涵的人的，虽然不显眼但有内涵。意外从天而降的好运，是给真正有内涵的人的。

A willow's leaves wrapping a melon — Qián's Heaven centered, the heart of Heaven in its true place — unremarkable in looks but full of substance, and luck falling from heaven goes to the one with substance — modest in appearance but rich within. Fortune that falls from heaven comes to the one who truly has substance inside.

上九Top Nine

上九，姤其角；吝，无咎。Encountering at the horns. Humiliation. No fault.

撞到对方的犄角——乾天到极处，天太高——碰到了犄角，伤了脸面，但其实没什么大错，伤了脸面，但其实没什么大错。在边缘处失礼一次，问题不大。

Bumping into the other's horn (the very edge) — Qián's Heaven at its extreme, Heaven too high — you bump the horn, lose a little face, but it's no real error — a loss of face, but no real fault in it. A single misstep at the margin is not a serious matter.
