泽天夬Guài · Resolution

兑上 · 乾下Lake over Heaven

卦辞The Judgement

夬：扬于王庭，孚号有厉；告自邑，不利即戎；利有攸往。Guài. Proclaim it at the king's court. With sincerity, cry out — there is danger. Notify one's own town. Not favorable to take up arms. Favorable to have somewhere to go.

需要果断决断、彻底解决问题。乾天在下属金居西北，兑泽在上属金居西方——泽水漫到了天上，水在天上留不住，马上就要决口泻下来。金金比和，同属金的两个东西叠在一起，过硬了——决断的时刻到了。不能再拖延、不能再回避——要在公开场合表明立场，承担风险。但决断不是用蛮力——要有计划、有同盟、有正当性。

A decisive break is needed; the problem must be settled once and for all. The lower trigram Qián is Heaven, element Metal, in the northwest; the upper trigram Duì is Lake, element Metal, in the west — the lake-water has risen into the sky, where water cannot stay, and is about to burst and pour down. Metal harmonizing with Metal, two of the same element stacked, gone too hard — the moment of the break has come. No more delay, no more dodging — you have to declare your stand openly and bear the risk. But resolution is not brute force — it takes a plan, allies, and legitimacy.

大象The Image

《象》曰：泽上于天，夬；君子以施禄及下，居德则忌。The lake has risen up to heaven: the image of Breakthrough. The noble one, accordingly, extends rewards to those below and is wary of resting on his own merit.

六爻The Six Lines

初九Initial Nine

初九，壮于前趾，往不胜为咎。Strength in the forward toes. Going forward unable to prevail — it becomes a fault.

刚出门就憋着劲想冲——乾金初爻，脚趾刚动——力气都在脚趾上，但能力还不够，冲出去必败，但能力还不够。这种贸然出击注定失败，会让自己陷入麻烦。

Straining to charge the moment you step out — Qián's Metal, first line, the toe just moving — all the force is in the toe, but the ability isn't there yet; charge out and you're sure to lose — but your strength isn't enough yet. This kind of rash advance is bound to fail and will land you in trouble.

九二Second Nine

九二，惕号，莫夜有戎，勿恤。On the alert, crying out. In the night there are armed men. Do not fear.

保持警觉，乾金居中，金子最稳——即使夜里有警报也不必慌，已经做好了准备，即使夜里有警报也不必慌——已经做好准备的人临危不乱。

Stay vigilant; Qián's Metal centered, the metal at its steadiest — even an alarm in the night need cause no panic, for the preparation is already made — even if the alarm sounds in the night, there's no need to panic — one who is already prepared stays calm in a crisis.

九三Third Nine

九三，壮于，有凶；君子夬夬独行，遇雨若濡，有愠，无咎。Strength in the cheekbones: misfortune. The superior person, resolute and resolved, walks alone, meets the rain, gets soaked, and is resented. No fault.

脸上挂着不快——乾金到三爻，金气太冲——一个人走路遇到雨，别人嘲笑，但心怀正义就没事，会有麻烦。一个人走路遇到雨，别人会嘲笑——但只要你心怀正义，最终没事。

Anger written all over your face — Qián's Metal at the third line, the metal-energy too headlong — walking alone, caught in the rain, mocked by others, but holding to justice means no harm — trouble follows. Walking alone, caught in the rain, others mock you — but as long as your heart holds to justice, in the end there is no harm.

九四Fourth Nine

九四，臀无肤，其行次且；牵羊悔亡，闻言不信。No skin on the buttocks; the walking is halting. Lead the sheep and regret vanishes. Hear the words but do not believe them.

屁股没皮（坐立不安），走路一瘸一拐——兑泽初爻，水面波动——处境很不舒服，听别人的建议又不全信，处境很不舒服。听别人的建议又不全信——这种摇摆状态有害。

Raw in the seat (can't sit still), walking with a limp — Duì's Lake, first line, the surface rippling — an uncomfortable spot, hearing advice but only half-believing it — an uncomfortable spot. Hearing advice but only half-trusting it — this wavering is harmful.

九五Fifth Nine

九五，苋陆夬夬，中行无咎。Cutting through the weeds, resolute and resolved. Walking the central path, no fault.

果断地清除（像拔野草）——兑泽居中，水最清澈——像拔野草一样果断，保持中道行事就没事，保持中道行事就没事。但内心还没真正光明磊落，需要继续修炼。

Decisively clearing things away (like pulling weeds) — Duì's Lake centered, the water at its clearest — decisive as pulling weeds, keeping to the central path means no harm — keep to the central path and there's no harm. But your heart isn't yet truly bright and clear; keep cultivating it.

上六Top Six

上六，无号，终有凶。No crying out. In the end, misfortune.

不再喊叫呼救——兑泽到极处，水已经决口——喊也没用了，救援都来不及了，救援都没用了——最终是凶。已经到了无可挽回的地步——警示要趁早行动。

No more crying for help (rescue is useless now) — Duì's Lake at its extreme, the water already burst its banks — crying out is no use, rescue too late — in the end, misfortune. Things have reached the point of no return — a warning to act early.
