离上 · 坤下Fire over Earth
卦辞The Judgement
晋：康侯用锡马蕃庶，昼日三接。Jìn. The peace-bringing prince is granted horses in abundance and received three times in a single day.
晋升、上进、被看见的好时机。坤土在下属土居西南，离火在上属火居南方——太阳从地平线上升起，越升越高。火生土，光明照亮大地，大地承接光明——上下互相成就。机会来了——表现自己、接受提拔、扩大影响。但晋升不是终点，是新责任的开始。
A good moment for promotion, advancement, being seen. The lower trigram Kūn is Earth, element Earth, in the southwest; the upper trigram Lí is Fire, element Fire, in the south — the sun rising over the horizon, climbing higher and higher. Fire generates Earth: the light shines on the land, the land receives the light — above and below completing each other. The opportunity has come — present yourself, accept the elevation, widen your influence. But promotion is not the destination; it's the beginning of new responsibility.
大象The Image
《象》曰：明出地上，晋；君子以自昭明德。Brightness emerges above the earth: the image of Progress. The noble one, accordingly, makes his own bright virtue shine forth.
六爻The Six Lines
初六，晋如摧如，贞吉；罔孚，裕无咎。Advancing, then held back. Steadfast and upright: good fortune. Not yet trusted; remain calm and unhurried. No fault.
想晋升但被压制、被退回——坤土初爻，太阳刚冒出地面就被云遮了——先别急，保持正道就好，会有好结果。即使暂时不被信任，自己问心无愧地做下去就行。
You want to rise but you're held down, pushed back — Kūn's Earth, first line, the sun barely cleared the ground when a cloud covers it — don't be in a hurry — just stay on the right path, and good fortune comes. Even if you're not yet trusted, keep doing the work with a clear conscience, and that's enough.
六二，晋如愁如，贞吉；受兹介福，于其王母。Advancing with worry. Steadfast and upright: good fortune. Receiving this great blessing from the royal matriarch.
晋升路上有忧愁、有波折——坤土居中，大地厚重——走得慢，但走得稳，福气来自意想不到的上方，但坚持正道会获得意外的福气（来自更高位的人或长辈）。
There's worry and turbulence on the road up — Kūn's Earth centered, the land heavy and thick — slow going, but steady, the blessing coming from an unexpected quarter above — but holding to the right path brings unexpected blessing (from a higher person or an elder).
六三，众允，悔亡。Winning the trust of the multitude. Regret vanishes.
得到大家的认可和支持——坤土到三爻，地气上升——群众基础打牢了，后悔的事都消散了，之前的悔意都消散了。这种公认的认可最让人安心。
Winning the recognition and support of the crowd — Kūn's Earth at the third line, the earth-energy rising — the popular base laid firm, and the regrets all scatter — the earlier regret dissolves. This kind of public endorsement is the most reassuring thing of all.
九四，晋如鼫鼠，贞厉。Advancing like a marmot rat. Steadfastness: adversity.
像田鼠一样小心翼翼地前进——离火初爻，火光还弱——像田鼠一样东张西望，偷偷摸摸，表面是吉的，但其实风险很大。过分小心、贪小便宜会被发现。
Inching forward like a timid rat — Lí's Fire, first line, the light still weak — darting glances like a field mouse, furtive — looks all right on the surface, but the risk is real. Excessive caution and grabbing for small advantages will get found out.
六五，悔亡，失得勿恤；往吉，无不利。Regret vanishes. Do not worry over loss and gain. Going forward: good fortune. Nothing is unfavorable.
之前的悔恨都消散了——离火居中，太阳正当空——得失都不值得计较了，光照一切，不必计较得失，往前走就是吉，没有不利。
The earlier regrets are gone — Lí's Fire centered, the sun riding high — gains and losses no longer worth counting, the light over everything — don't calculate gains and losses; just go forward and it's auspicious, with nothing against you.
上九，晋其角，维用伐邑，厉吉，无咎；贞吝。Advancing to the horns. Fit only to subdue one's own domain. Danger, then good fortune, no fault. Steadfastness: humiliation.
把强势用在头角上（顶在最前面）——离火到极处，光太亮反而刺眼——只能用来照清别人的错，不能照见自己，只能用来对付不听话的人，但即使吉也带憾。锋芒太露，最终是孤立的。
Pushing your strength out onto the horns (out at the very front) — Lí's Fire at its extreme, the light so bright it dazzles — fit only to expose others' faults, never to see your own — it can only be turned against those who won't fall in line, and even the good fortune comes with regret. Too sharp an edge ends up isolated.
