Dà Xù · Great Accumulation
Mountain over Heaven
The Judgement
Dà Xù. Favorable to be steadfast and upright. Not eating at home: good fortune. Favorable to cross great rivers.
You've stored up great energy, resources, capacity — but not yet released them. the upper trigram Gèn is Mountain, element Earth, in the northeast — Heaven wrapped inside the mountain, all that grandeur held within the hills. Earth generates Metal: the mountain nurtures Heaven inside itself, and the longer it nurtures, the purer it grows. This is the state of gathering deep before the surge. Don't rush to spend it — nurture your strength and wait for the great use. The longer the charge builds, the more powerful the release.
大象The Image
Heaven held within the mountain: the image of Great Restraint. The noble one, accordingly, learns much of the words and deeds of the past, and so stores up his virtue.
六爻The Six Lines
There is danger. Favorable to halt.
You sense the latent danger and stop in time — that alertness is precious. By not taking the risk, you sidestep the disaster.
The axle bracket comes off the cart.
Things have stalled, but you didn't force them forward — that pause is wise. Don't push yourself; wait until the conditions are ready, then move.
Fine horses give chase. Favorable to be steadfast through hardship. Daily practice the chariot and its defense. Favorable to have somewhere to go.
Chasing a goal alongside someone of real strength — but the conditions are hard and call for care. Keep up the relevant training (drilling the armor), stay alert.
A board on a young bull's horns. Sublime good fortune.
Set the rules while the matter is still small (the guard on the calf's horns) — the fourth line, yin, enters Gèn's Mountain — the mountain's foot is steadiest; build the fence here and you do twice the work with half the effort — prevention beats cure. Early restraint heads off later loss of control.
The tusks of a gelded boar. Good fortune.
Pull the beast's tusks (geld the boar) — Gèn's Earth centered — earth can bury the danger, removing the threat at its source — remove the source of danger at the root. Not avoiding the problem, but solving it from the foundation.
How open is the thoroughfare of Heaven! Prosperous and smooth.
The high road to Heaven — Gèn's Mountain at its extreme — the summit opens onto Heaven, Heaven waiting beyond the peak; the store is full, and the road opens of itself — every obstacle gone, the way wide open to act out your aims. This is the surge after the build-up is complete.
