卦辞The Judgement
鼎：元吉，亨。Dǐng. Sublime good fortune. Prosperous and smooth.
建立新秩序、稳定核心、凝聚人心的时机。巽木在下属木居东南，离火在上属火居南方——木上有火，木头烧火，火在煮鼎里的食物。木生火，木把自己烧了来养火——这是牺牲旧我、成就新生的格局。鼎是文明的象征——意味着正式、稳重、传承。该立规矩立规矩，该定方向定方向，该确认权威就确认权威。
A moment for establishing a new order, steadying the core, drawing hearts together. The lower trigram Xùn is Wood, element Wood, in the southeast; the upper trigram Lí is Fire, element Fire, in the south — fire above wood: the wood burns, and the fire cooks the food in the cauldron. Wood generates Fire: the wood burns itself away to feed the fire — the pattern of sacrificing the old self to bring forth the new. The Cauldron is the symbol of civilization itself — meaning formality, gravity, and inheritance. Set the rules, set the direction, set the authority.
大象The Image
《象》曰：木上有火，鼎；君子以正位凝命。Fire above the wood: the image of the Cauldron. The noble one, accordingly, settles himself in his proper place and makes firm his mandate.
六爻The Six Lines
初六，鼎颠趾，利出否；得妾以其子，无咎。The cauldron's feet upturned. Favorable to pour out the foul. A man takes a concubine and gets a son through her. No fault.
鼎被翻倒（颠倒了脚）——巽木初爻，树刚被砍来当柴——把里面坏的东西倒出来，这种颠覆反而是好事，清理旧物、引入新人，把里面坏的东西倒出来。这种“颠覆”反而是好事——清理旧物、引入新人。
The cauldron is overturned (its feet flipped) — Xùn's Wood, first line, the tree just cut for firewood — the foul matter inside poured out, an overturning that is in fact good, clearing the old and drawing in the new — and the foul matter inside is poured out. 九二，鼎有实；我仇有疾，不我能即，吉。The cauldron is full. My rival has illness and cannot reach me. Good fortune.
鼎里有食物（实力充沛）——巽木居中，柴火最足——但旁边有人嫉妒，把握节奏，别让对方碰到，最终吉，但旁边有人嫉妒（仇）。把握节奏，别让对方碰到——最终吉。
There is food in the cauldron (strength is full) — Xùn's Wood centered, the firewood at its fullest — but a resentful one nearby; keep your pace, don't let them reach you, and good fortune in the end — but there is someone resentful nearby. 九三，鼎耳革，其行塞，雉膏不食；方雨亏悔，终吉。The cauldron's ears are altered, its movement blocked. The pheasant broth is not eaten. When the rain comes, regret diminishes. In the end, good fortune.
鼎的耳朵坏了（沟通管道断了）——巽木到三爻，柴烧得太旺——好东西吃不到，需要修复，下点雨缓和气氛才能转好，好东西吃不到、用不上。需要修复，下点雨（缓和气氛）才能转好。
The cauldron's ears are broken (the lines of communication are cut) — Xùn's Wood at the third line, the fire blazing too hard — the good thing can't be eaten, needing repair and a little rain to ease the air before it turns around — the good thing inside cannot be eaten or used. It needs repair, and rain (a softening of the atmosphere) for it to turn around.
九四，鼎折足，覆公，其形渥，凶。The cauldron's legs break. The duke's stew is spilled, its sides drenched. Misfortune.
鼎的腿断了——离火初爻，火刚烧上鼎——里面公家的食物洒了一地，重大失职，必须承担责任，里面公家的食物洒了一地。重大失职——必须承担责任。
The cauldron's legs break and the duke's broth pours on the ground — Lí's Fire, first line, the fire just reaching the cauldron — the public broth spilled across the ground, a grave dereliction that must be answered for — a grave dereliction; the responsibility must be borne.
六五，鼎黄耳金铉，利贞。The cauldron has yellow ears and a metal bar. Favorable to be steadfast and upright.
鼎的耳朵是黄色（中正），还有金色铉（高规格）——离火居中，火候最正——保持正道吉，这是受信任的状态，保持正道吉。这是受信任的状态。
The cauldron's ears are yellow (central) and its bar is gold (high quality) — Lí's Fire centered, the heat at its truest — holding the right way brings fortune, the state of being trusted — holding the right way brings good fortune. This is the state of being trusted.
上九，鼎玉铉，大吉，无不利。The cauldron with a jade bar. Great good fortune. Nothing is unfavorable.
鼎的铉是玉做的（最高规格）——离火到极处，火候完美——大吉无所不利，一切达到了完美的状态，大吉无所不利。一切达到了完美的状态。
A jade bar tops the cauldron (the highest grade) — Lí's Fire at its extreme, the heat perfected — great fortune, all favorable, everything come to its consummate state — great good fortune, all favorable. Everything comes to its consummate state.
