艮上 · 离下Mountain over Fire
卦辞The Judgement
贲：亨，小利有攸往。Bì. Prosperous and smooth. Slightly favorable to have somewhere to go.
讲究外在的修饰、形象、礼仪——这本身没错，但要注意不能本末倒置。离火在下属火居南方，艮山在上属土居东北——火在山下烧，把山壁照得很漂亮。火生土，火是山的装饰，但山还是山，火只是光。装饰是为了内涵服务，不是替代内涵。重内在轻外表，但也不忽视外在。
Attending to outward polish, image, and form — there's nothing wrong with this, but don't let it invert the priorities. The lower trigram Lí is Fire, element Fire, in the south; the upper trigram Gèn is Mountain, element Earth, in the northeast — fire burning below the mountain, lighting the rock face beautifully. Fire generates Earth: fire is the mountain's adornment, but the mountain is still the mountain, and fire is only light. Decoration serves the substance; it doesn't replace it. Value the inner over the outer, but don't neglect the outer either.
大象The Image
《象》曰：山下有火，贲；君子以明庶政，无敢折狱。Fire at the foot of the mountain: the image of Grace. The noble one, accordingly, brings clarity to ordinary affairs but does not presume to decide grave legal cases.
六爻The Six Lines
初九，贲其趾，舍车而徒。Adorning the toes. Leaving the carriage to walk on foot.
宁愿走路也不坐别人的车——离火初爻，火刚亮——从脚开始装饰，不急着上车，保持自己的原则和姿态，不为虚荣低头。这种朴素的坚守，反而最有尊严。
Rather ride no one's carriage and walk on your own feet — Lí's Fire, first line, the flame just lit — adorning from the feet up, in no hurry to climb aboard — keeping your principles and posture, never bowing for vanity. This plain integrity carries the most dignity.
六二，贲其须。Adorning the beard.
适当修饰自己的外表——离火居中，火候刚好，梳理胡须、整理仪容这样的小修饰，跟着身边的人一起做就好，不需要标新立异。
A modest grooming of your appearance — Lí's Fire centered, the heat just right — tidying the beard, putting yourself together — done in step with the people around you, with no need to stand out.
九三，贲如，濡如，永贞吉。Adorned and glistening. Lasting steadfastness and uprightness: good fortune.
把自己装扮得很美、显得有光彩——离火到三爻，火光最盛——装扮得水灵灵的，但要长期坚守正道，不能只靠外表撑着。终究没人能凌驾在内涵之上。
Dressing yourself up handsomely, showing real luster — Lí's Fire at the third line, the blaze at its fullest — dressed up bright and glistening — but you must hold to the right path over the long run, not rely on appearances to carry you. In the end, no one can stand above true substance.
六四，贲如，皤如，白马翰如；匪寇，婚媾。Adorned plainly, all white; a white horse coming swift as wings. Not a robber, but a suitor.
外表朴素简单（白马素装），六四阴爻进入艮山——山体本身的颜色最耐看，不需要火来照，不为虚荣装扮——遇到合适的人时，对方不会因此看轻你。本色就是最好的修饰。
Plain and simple in appearance, the fourth line, yin, enters Gèn's Mountain — the mountain's own color wears best, needing no fire to light it — no dressing up for vanity — and when the right person comes, they won't think less of you for it. Your true self is the finest adornment.
六五，贲于丘园，束帛戋戋；吝，终吉。Adorning the hills and gardens. A bundle of silk, small and thin. Regret, but in the end good fortune.
在乡间或简朴的环境里活得有品位——六五阴爻居艮山中——山间小院，素朴得很，拿一点小东西做礼物送人，看似寒酸，其实有真挚的情谊。最终会有福气。
Living with taste in a humble, rustic setting — the fifth line, yin, within Gèn's Mountain — a small courtyard among the hills, plain and unadorned — offering a small gift that looks meager but carries genuine warmth. In the end, there is blessing in it.
上九，白贲，无咎。Adorning with plain white. No fault.
返璞归真——艮山到极处，火已经烧完了，什么都不装饰，纯粹本色。这是最高的“美”——不需要任何外在加持的内在光芒。
Returning to plainness — Gèn's Mountain at its extreme, the fire now burned out — no decoration at all, pure and unadorned. This is the highest beauty — an inner radiance that needs nothing added from outside.
