巽上 · 坤下Wind over Earth
卦辞The Judgement
观：盥而不荐，有孚颙若。Guān. The hands have been washed, but the offering is not yet presented. Sincere and truthful, with reverence appearing.
现在是观察、思考、积累的时候，不是行动的时候。坤土在下属土居西南，巽风在上属木居东南——风在大地上吹，无孔不入，但只是观察，不干预。木克土，但这里的克不是破坏，是风吹过大地，把每一寸土都看清楚了。要冷静地看清局势——上面在做什么、下面在动什么、整体趋势如何。看清楚了再决定怎么动，不要急。
Now is the time to observe, reflect, and gather — not to act. Kūn's Earth below is element Earth, in the southwest; Xùn's Wind above is element Wood, in the southeast — the wind blows over the great land, getting into everything, but only observing, not intervening. Wood checks Earth, but here the checking isn't destruction — it's the wind passing over the land and seeing every inch of it clearly. Look at the situation coolly and clearly: what those above are doing, what those below are stirring, where the whole trend is heading. See it clearly first, then decide how to move. Don't rush.
大象The Image
《象》曰：风行地上，观；先王以省方观民设教。Wind moves over the earth: the image of Contemplation. The ancient kings, accordingly, surveyed the regions, observed the people, and set up their teaching.
六爻The Six Lines
初六，童观，小人无咎，君子吝。Watching like a child. For the petty person, no fault; for the superior person, regret.
用孩子般幼稚的眼光看世界——坤土初爻，地面最表层——只看得到眼前一寸，看不到深层，对小人物可以，但作为成年人或决策者就太肤浅了。要有更深的洞察力。
Seeing the world with a child's naive eye — Kūn's Earth, first line, the very surface of the ground — it sees only an inch ahead, nothing of the depths — fine for someone of no consequence, but far too shallow for an adult or a decision-maker. You need deeper insight.
六二，观，利女贞。Watching through a crack. Favorable for the chastity of a woman.
偷偷地、片面地观察事物——坤土居中，从门缝里往外看——视角窄，但也能看到一些真相，这种“窥视”对私下了解情况有用，但不能作为大事的依据。视野要打开。
Glimpsing things secretly and partially — Kūn's Earth centered, looking out through a crack in the door — a narrow angle, but it can still catch some truth — this kind of peeking is useful for sizing up a situation privately, but it can't be the basis for anything important. Open up your field of view.
六三，观我生，进退。Watching one's own life. Whether to advance or retreat.
观察自己的人生、决定下一步该进还是退——坤土到三爻，开始往深处看——不再看别人，回头看自己，这是健康的自省。不停地反思自己，才不会偏离正道。
Observing your own life and deciding the next move — advance or retreat — Kūn's Earth at the third line, beginning to look deeper — no longer at others, but turning back to look at oneself — this is healthy self-examination. Constantly reflecting on yourself is how you keep from drifting off the right path.
六四，观国之光，利用宾于王。Watching the glory of the kingdom. Favorable to be a guest of the king.
去观察国家或更大格局的发展，巽风初爻，风刚吹上地面——视野从自己扩展到了更大的范围，会有机会被有眼光的人赏识、被重用。眼界打开了，机会自然来。
Go observe the workings of the state, of the larger picture, Xùn's Wind, first line, the wind just rising over the ground — the view widening from oneself to a far larger range, and you may be recognized and called into service by those with discernment. Once your horizon opens, the opportunities come.
九五，观我生，君子无咎。Watching one's own life. The superior person: no fault.
观察自己的所作所为——九五阳爻居巽风中——风吹了一圈，最后回到自己身上，一个负责的人会通过观察自己来反观大局。从“我”开始反省，才能看清“众生”。
Observing your own conduct — the fifth line, yang, in the middle of Xùn's Wind — the wind makes its full circuit and comes back to the self at last — a responsible person reflects on the larger picture by looking back at the self. Only by starting the examination with "me" can you see clearly into the lives of others.
上九，观其生，君子无咎。His life is watched by all. The superior person: no fault.
观察别人的行为、社会的现象——巽风到极处——风吹遍了大地，什么都看到了，这是更高层次的智慧。但即使智慧通达了，内心还是需要继续修炼。
Observing the conduct of others and the phenomena of the wider world — Xùn's Wind at its extreme — the wind has blown across the whole land and seen everything — this is a higher order of wisdom. But even when your insight is complete, the inner cultivation still has to go on.
